March Madness Day 16: Beyoncé, Earl Sweatshirt, Drake & Apollo Brown

4 projects that I gave my thoughts on. (From left to right, clockwise: Beyoncé's 'Lemonade', Earl Sweatshirt's "I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside", Apollo Brown's "Clouds" and Drake's "So Far Gone")

QUICK THOUGHTS:

  • Beyoncé - Lemonade

It's diverse yet somehow really cohesive and not too long, I appreciate the instrumentals on this album more than Beyoncé actually. I love the production on songs like "Hold Up" "Formation" and "Daddy Lessons". While I'm not exactly sure what makes this project as a whole SO GREAT like people are claiming, I will say "Sandcastles" is the most raw I've ever heard Beyoncé every time she sings

"Bitch, I scratched out your name and your face"
"What is it about you that I can't erase, baby?"

That shit physically hits me, like its impossible to not feel the pain in her voice. So, while I'm not in love with every single song on here. I will say "Sandcastles" is a worthy 10/10 and one of the best songs this year. But the other songs are just ok to me. I love the production though but Beyoncé herself I just don't care for. Sorry Beyhive lol.

  • Earl Sweatshirt - I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside

I think this album is finally really clicking with me, I see why so many people love this shit. Its crazy how "Grief" is the most darkest song yet I get excited when it comes on. Grief just puts me in the ultimate "Fuck everyone and everything mood" and I love it. IDLS,IDGO  may end up a future classic, I can feel it.

  • Drake - So Far Gone

With VFT6 right around the corner I figured I'd revisit Drake's breakthrough mixtape. It's still as good as I remember it. A number of Drake's best songs are on here. Including "Say What's Real" "The Calm" and "Successful" and there are others like my favorite Wayne/Drake collab to date which is there version of Jay Z's Ignorant Shit. The energy of Wayne and Drake is unfuckwithable on that song. So Far Gone is still the shit and I believe its safe to say that this is a classic mixtape.

  • Apollo Brown - Clouds

Saw it recommended on here and decided to check it out. And WOW this shit is fucking fantastic. Not a single instrumental I don't like or am I lukewarm on. I streamed this album once and immediately bought it, which is something I never ever ever do. This instrumental project is gonna go down as my one of my personal top instrumenal project of all time. Right behind Dilla's donuts and DOOM's Special Herbs series. Great project through and through and the highest of my recommendations if you like Clams Casino, laid backm airy production.
